چکیده
This worked assessed the potential of alginate-like exopolymers (ALE) hydrogels recovered from aerobic granular sludge (AGS) in removing compounds commonly present municipal wastewater. Batch sorption experiments were performed with ALE at different operating conditions. Results showed that can only remove phosphate, removal efficiencies up to 90.8% and practical loadings 1.22 ± 0.07 mg PO43?-P/g TSALE. Phosphate was observed even presence competing ions. Moreover, neutral acidic pH values strongly impaired phosphate (28.9 0.8% = 6.00), while basic around 8.50 most favourable (up 8.67). However, contributed increase COD, total nitrogen phosphorus bulk liquid, what suggests need be further tailored. Therefore, this study demonstrates represent a relevant approach for recovery phosphates

Simultaneous COD, nitrogen, and phosphate removal by aerobic granular sludge.
Aerobic granular sludge technology offers a possibility to design compact wastewater treatment plants based on simultaneous chemical oxygen demand (COD), nitrogen and phosphate removal in one sequencing batch reactor. In earlier studies, it was shown that aerobic granules, cultivated with an aerobic pulse-feeding pattern, were not stable at low dissolved oxygen concentrations. Selection for slo...
متن کاملRole of ammonia-oxidizing bacteria in micropollutant removal from wastewater with aerobic granular sludge.
Nitrifying wastewater treatment plants (WWTPs) are more efficient than non-nitrifying WWTPs to remove several micropollutants such as pharmaceuticals and pesticides. This may be related to the activity of nitrifying organisms, such as ammonia-oxidizing bacteria (AOBs), which could possibly co-metabolically oxidize micropollutants with their ammonia monooxygenase (AMO). The role of AOBs in micro...
متن کاملTextile wastewater treatment: aerobic granular sludge vs activated sludge systems.
Textile effluents are characterised by high content of recalcitrant compounds and are often discharged (together with municipal wastewater to increase their treatability) into centralized wastewater treatment plants with a complex treatment scheme. This paper reports the results achieved adopting a granular sludge system (sequencing batch biofilter granular reactor - SBBGR) to treat mixed munic...
متن کاملPhosphate and nitrate removal from municipal wastewater by algae Scenedesmus obliquus cultivation and production of algal biomass
Nitrate and phosphate are abundant in urban wastewater. We evaluated the efficiency of nitrate and phosphate removal from wastewater by Scenedesmus obliquus and its use as a medium for Scenedesmus obliquus. Samples were collected from the effluent of central wastewater treatment in Gorgan. This experiment was done by 3 treatments and 6 replications that effluent with 100%, 50% and 0% were dilut...
متن کاملRemoval of steroid estrogens from municipal wastewater in a pilot scale expanded granular sludge blanket reactor and anaerobic membrane bioreactor
Anaerobic treatment of municipal wastewater offers the prospect of a new paradigm by reducing aeration costs and minimizing sludge production. It has been successfully applied in warm climates, but does not always achieve the desired outcomes in temperate climates at the biochemical oxygen demand (BOD) values of municipal crude wastewater. Recently the concept of 'fortification' has been propos...
